My name is Fenella Littleboy (Fen). I have a teenage son who was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at the age of 3 and this shock diagnosis ricocheted through my family, sending us on a journey that would change our lives forever.
In a bid to make sense of this event and to harness the grief I felt for my son’s lost childhood, I began volunteering with the Norwich & District Diabetes Youth Group. As my family learned to live with, rather than be ruled by diabetes, I wanted to support others as they navigated this life-changing diagnosis.
I am passionate about diabetes education; access to information; support and quality care, particularly for children and young people.  I was invited to become a trustee of Diabetes Norfolk in 2022. This position allowed me to increase awareness of and education about diabetes to a broader range of people and to facilitate connections between different groups, all trying to support and protect their communities.
The diabetes community in Norfolk is strong and vocal, but it is unquestionably growing and I am very proud to support it as much and as often as I can for the sake of our current and future families.
